IoT vs IoE: What’s the Difference?

You can’t connect to the internet or buy a new device today without hearing about the Internet of Things or the Internet of Everything.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, and while both have revolutionized the tech industry, there are important differences between the two concepts.

But what exactly are those differences?

Both facilitate communication and the sharing of data across the internet by establishing networks between previously separate entities.

While the IoT connects things, i.e. devices, and allows communication between them, the IoE, connects much more than that – the four “pillars” as defined by Cisco are people, processes, data, and things.

So the things which are connected via IoT are just one component if the IoE.
